34minsthe Palace of Mycenae
Perched atop the Citadel's highest point, the Mycenaean Palace served as a symbol of the monarchs' might. It was constructed on several levels and discovered in 1886. The northwest is where the Palace's entrance is located. There are very few of the murals that were used to decorate the walls and floor. The Throne chamber, which served as the primary guest receiving area, was once located on the west side of the yard. A number of buildings that are thought to have been gentry homes are among the remnants. The site's archaeological discoveries demonstrate the intimate connection between Minoan and Mycenaean art, because a clear influence from the earlier Cretan-Minoan technique can be seen in the many murals and mosaics discovered there.
