It was built in the fifteenth century and is situated close to Syntagma Square. The location where Anastasios, the city's patron saint, was tortured by the Turks is marked by a monument outside the temple. St. Anastasios was a painter who was born and raised in Nafplio. Anastasios was determined to become a Christian despite the Turks' attempts to convert him with numerous promises. Then the Turks tortured him to death on February 1, 1655. In remembrance of him, a magnificent procession with his icon is held on February 1st each year.
