Ancient temple dedicated to Apollo

Nea Tirintha is situated near the towns of Nafplio and Argos. The town's residents primarily engage in the tourism sector, as the Ancient Tirintha archaeological site attracts visitors year-round. Agriculture is also a significant source of income for the local residents, similar to those in other flat regions of Argolida Prefecture. The town has historical connections with the ancient settlement of Tirins or Tirintha. The earliest settlement evidence in the region is traced back to around 2500 B.C. The town's name is regarded as one of the oldest. There is a belief that the town was named Tirintha, the son of Argos and grandson of the god Zeus. The initial wall construction is believed to have commenced in the 15th century B.C. Over the next two centuries, particularly by the close of the 13th century B.C., the town's walls were consistently rebuilt and reinforced. Ultimately, these walls extended to such an immense length and width, sections of which we can still appreciate today.
