Cretan Warrior Monument

The Tolo plaza, known as Botzaki square in commemoration of the teacher Agni Botzaki-Papazoglou, is located on Bouboulina's main thoroughfare. She was born and reared in Smyrni, Asia Minor, which is now Turkey. In 1922, she took a ship to Nafplion. She became the sole instructor at the little Tolo school, where she taught numerous generations of students for about 35 years. In the middle of the square, a monument celebrating the Cretan colonists was erected in 1996. The inscription said, "In honour of the Cretan warrior.
The descendants of the Cretan colonists, October 1996. Royal decree of the 13th October 1834 (No. 16951)."
. to be constructed near Tolo's harbour, a town called Minoa. To be invited to live there the Cretans who are scattered
across this kingdom…"

"God, if only it would be possible,
to return to Crete,
to see again,
my paternal home" is the poem's loose translation.

The Tolo Primary School and the public playground are adjacent to the square park. The outdoor exercise equipment was installed by the Municipality of Nafplio. In 2015, the Cultural Association and the Tourism Association of Tolo assumed responsibility for the park's upkeep.
